Things fall apart — Always remember to rebuild

“The sun will shine on those who stand, before it shines on those who kneel” — Chinua Achebe (Things Fall Apart)

There comes a time in everyone’s life, when s/he feels that Murphy’s Law was designed to only mess up with their lives, and not with any one else’s lives. Believe me, this is not true. As I am writing this article, I am standing at a view point that everything is falling apart for me, and nothing is going right. But, putting things into perspective and the right bucket of things, gives the energy, power, and mechanism to deal with challenges or obstacles.

Let me explain how things are falling apart — challenges or obstacles

1) Work is not going as expected. Processes are broken, and we are operating on one day at a time, to fix the broken processes for the time being 2) Health — not in the best of shape (growing up catching on), and migraines are killing 3) obstacles at home, in terms of help at home, broken doors, thanks to infestation and weather changes 4) other issues, which, as I write this article, realize, are too menial. But, they are 100 small things, adding up to make a huge thing.

First way of approaching problems and challenges — Bucket them into respective categories, by writing them down, and jotting your thoughts. Very helpful, and provides a nice perspective. This brings me to Life Hack 1 — Wake up early in the morning, and plan your day on a piece of paper. This will give direction, and also a sense of fulfilment at the end of the day. Writing down also helps realize that problems are quite small

Second way of approaching problems — Take a step back, and observe from a distance. This not only helps provide patience to write down your thoughts, but also provides a perspective to jot them down, and categorize into urgent, important, both or none.

Third way — Don’t push things under the table. Even if it is a small thing, try to fix it then and there. Else, the small thing will whirlwind into a big thing. But remember, it is important to be steadfast and mentally strong, rather than break under pressure. Now, one might say that breaking under pressure is ok. No one knows better than me — it is ok, and it is completely fine. But remember, we have to claw back some way or the other. It’s ok to feel low, bogged down and upset, but keep fighting. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Fourth way — Do something that is for yourself. Be it reading, writing, listening to music, going on a drive, meeting a friend, talking to a person. But, don’t let things around you suck the joy out of your life. Take as much as you can, and manage the rest!

Feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions on overcoming obstacles in the comments below!
